Abstract

In a cotton card (or each card of a set) "fleece" formed by high-grade waste continually freed by the flats comb falling on to a collecting plate in cohesive form is collected in a trough where it accumulates in front of a suction aperture extending laterally along the bottom of the trough and through which it is periodically removed. In normal operation, movement of the flats causes spaced groups of pins carried thereby to actuate a ball-valve at predetermined intervals (or such valve may be adjustably controlled by a time control mechanism) whereby an air-piston operates spring-loaded chain and sprocket mechanism to raise a damper plate and connect a source of negative pressure to the aperture and a chamber into which the heaped fibre is drawn; the fibre is then pneumatically removed to a collecting header and a central collecting point. The recovered fibre may be spread automatically in fleece form. If the apparatus is incorporated in a conventional suction plant, breaker waste is separately collected.
