Abstract

A thermoplastically deformable composition comprises 5 to 95% (by weight) of a polyurethane of molecular weight at least 8000 and 95 to 5% of a polyoxymethylene of molecular weight at least 4000. The polyurethanes may be produced from (a) polyesters, polyalkylene glycol ethers, polyesteramides, polythioethers or polyacetals or their graft derivatives with acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate or vinyl chloride; (b) aromatic or aliphatic polyisocyanates and (c) chain extenders such as glycols or water. They may have various terminal or internal groups, several examples being given. The polyoxymethylenes are polymers of formaldehyde or trioxane which may also have various terminal groups, e.g. hydroxyl, mercapto, ether or acyl, and internal groups from small amounts (1%) of comonomers such as cyclic acetals and 1,2-epoxides.
