In a shovel excavator in which a shovel can be swung vertically by a chain extending the shovel and a drum of a winch on the chassis of the excavator there is provided at one or more points where the chain is either connected or in contact with the shovel or chassis resilient means to help to absorb shock stresses that may be set up in the chain.
