Abstract

1,016,735. Metal casks. E. C. LEWIS & ALUMASC Ltd. July 10, 1963 [May 31, 1963], No. 21787/63. Heading B8D. [Also in Division B3] A metal cask has a pressed body 1 (Fig. 1, not shown) to the ends of which are secured cast rims 5. The body 1 is pressed in two halves from sheets of aluminium or stainless steel or from commercial aluminium clad with pure aluminium. Ribs 4 are formed during the pressing operation and the halves are joined by a weld 3. Cast rims 5 of aluminium or aluminium alloy are welded to the body. An aperture 10 in the side of the body is surrounded by a cast ring 4a welded to the body. An aperture 12 in the end of the body is surrounded by a ring 11 integral with a cast rim 5. In a modification a fitting carrying a valve and a draw-off pipe is located in a central opening at an end of the cask.
