Abstract
1,016,661. Bottling. DRUK-PAK A.G. May 27, 1964, No. 21830/64. Heading B8T. A container filling and stoppering apparatus includes a work cylinder 1 and piston 8 supplied through passages 6 and 7 with pressure medium whereby a piston 15 in a dosing or measuring cylinder 14 is reciprocated. When the dosing piston 15 is driven upwardly filling material is drawn into its cylinder from a line 61, passages 23, 18 and past a normally closed valve 19 in a head 16. On the downstroke the filling material is forced through passages 17 in the head whereby a valve 25 is urged upwardly against the action of a spring 30 and filling material is allowed to flow into the container 56 past a stopper. Upward movement of the valve 25 is effected by the pressure of filling material acting upon a piston 24 of the valve. As shown, the valve in its lowermost position seats on a washer 26 above the container opening. On further downward movement of the piston 15 a ram 29 forces a stopper plunger downwardly to force the stopper into the container opening. A normally closed valve 35 is opened when the piston reaches a lower position whereby filling material in the cylinder 14 is fed back to the line 61 via passages 31, 37. The container 56 is mounted on a plate 49 resiliently supported by springs 51 about columns 50 supported on a table 48 reciprocated vertically by a fluidoperated piston and cylinder motor 68, 69. Thus the container opening is brought into sealing contact with the head 16. Before the filling step the container interior is connected to a vacuum chamber 57 via a normally closed valve 39 in the head and passages 41, 42 and 54. The valve is opened by a cam 45 secured to the table 48 by a pedestal 47. After the container stopper is forced home the valve 39 is again opened so that surplus filling material is drawn into the vacuum chamber 57. The stroke of the work cylinder is adjusted by a piston 4 screwed into a cover 2. The dosing cylinder 14 has a piston-like collar 13 slidably received in a stroke cylinder 11, and downward movement of the cylinder 14 is controlled by a throttle valve 63.
