Abstract
A composite refractory comprises a coarse open part joined to a fine dense part, each part having been fired to its optimum firing temperature, the second part being fired at a temperature not exceeding that of the first part and in contact therewith. Specified materials for the parts are: fine-alumina, thoria, zirconia, magnesia, beryllia, sillimanite, zircon or silicon carbide; coarse-silicon carbide, kyanite, bauxite, fire clay, alumina magnesia or magnesite.
