Abstract

1, 015, 681. Gyroscopic apparatus; Accelerometers HONEYWELL Inc. May 25,1962 [May 26, 1961], No. 20230/62. Headings G1C,G1K and G1X. [Also in Division F2] A rotatable element, such as the gimbal 20 of a floated gyroscope, has mounted thereon a holder 31 with treated surface 43 to which a thermoplastic mass 44 adheres so that on supplying current to an electrical heater 33 the mass 44 becomes plastic and by suitably orienting the gimbal relative to gravity the centre of gravity of mass 44 may be shifted, whilst it still adheres to surface 43, so as to balance the gimbal. Any residual unbalance may be corrected, after initial balancing, by supplying heat for a limited time or in limited amount so that during subsequent balancing operations only a small amount of the mass 44 becomes plastic. The surface 43 may be treated with nickel plate with a gold flash superimposed thereon.
