Abstract

1,015,308. Rug cleaning devices. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 22, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963], No. 38608/64. Heading A4F. In a rug cleaning device preferably for attachment to a rotary floor polisher cleaning liquid introduced into a container 33 is foamed by a rotary agitator 34, which draws air into the container, e.g. through holes in its lid 47, and which is driven by a rotary applicator 15 adjacent which the foam passes to the rug, e.g. through a shoot 57. In the illustrated embodiment the applicator 15 is one of two which are mounted on a floor polishing machine in place of the brushes, and each of which comprises spokes 18 (not shown) radiating from a central hub to an outer rim. The lower surface 27 of each applicator is convex so that the foam flows into the spaces between the spokes 18, and the applicator 15 which drives the agitator 34 carries a peripheral resilent band 24 (not shown) for driving engagement with the knurled end 40 of the agitator shaft 35. The cleaning liquid is fed to the container 33 through a flexible tube 50 from a tank mounted on the handle of the floor polisher.
