Abstract

Chipboard is made by coating wood chips, bagasse, flax shives, cotton stalks, rice husks, or the like with a liquid urea-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde resin, with or without a hardener for the resin, and an aqueous suspension of gelatine or casein, compressing the articles at a temperature below the curing point and finally hot-pressing at a temperature to effect curing. The ingredients can be added to the wood in any order. The gelatine solution may be stabilized by the inclusion of urea.
