1,014,733. Waveguide ferrite phase shifters. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 17, 1963 [Sept. 19, 1962], No. 35651/62. Heading H1W. A microwave phase shifter for pulsed operation comprises a rectangular waveguide 11 containing an axial cylindrical dielectric rod 3 carrying an assembly of circular ferrite rings 2 and one or more non- magnetic metal strips 6 mounted along the rod and connected to external leads 5; the wider internal dimension of the waveguide is constricted, 13, in the region of the ferrite rings, to enhance the phase shift. The rings may be arranged in groups to give, as illustrated, a binary series, or to give a ternary series using de-magnetizing pulses of alternate sign and decreasing amplitude.
