Abstract
1,014,519. Electric battery lamps. W. J. HILL (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. Nov. 11, 1963 [March 2, 1963], No. 8425/63. Heading F4R. A cycle lamp has a switch contact mechanism comprising a pair of spaced contacts each arranged to make contact with an individual battery cell in a container and a rotary knob carrying a bridging contact to engage adjacent ends of the spaced contacts, the contacts being of U-formation arranged mouth to mouth, one arm of each U being carried by insulating plates mounted on the end of the container, joggles on the arm passing through slots in one of the insulating plates. In the form shown, the casing 10 carries a lamp housing 12 enclosing a bulb 13 and closed by a lens cap 14 which may be coloured red if the lamp is to be used as a rear lamp. The shell of the bulb 13 is connected to the casing and the centre contact to a contact strip 18 insulated from the casing and connected to the base of a cell 15. The centre pole of the second cell 16 which is inverted relatively to the cell 15 engages a contact 17 on the casing. The centre contact of cell 15 and the base of cell 16 engage resilient contacts 33, 34, the opposite ends of which are mounted on, but insulated from, the casing and terminate in downwardly bent tongues which can be engaged by a metal contact ring 32 carried by an insulating disc 30 mounted on the inner end of a threaded shank 26 passing through a tapped bush 25 in the lid of the casing and having a knob 27 by which it can be screwed in to cause the ring 32 to engage the bent tongues at the ends of the contacts 33, 34.
