Abstract

1,014,483. Packaging-machines; shoots. SACK FILLERS Ltd. June 6, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 30385/61. Headings B8C and B8S. Paper bags 5 are filled from a hopper 1, which receives a weighed charge of flowable material 2 from an automatic scale, and the material 2 passes down a shoot 4 having means, e.g. an adjustable plate 8, for restricting the crosssectional area of the flow, thereby allowing air to pass from the bag to an outlet 15 in the shoot. The cross-sectional area of the material 2 is further restricted in the lower part of the shoot owing to the taper of the shoot wall. The bag may be seated on a settling device 6. An adjustable valve 7 controls outflow from the hopper. In a modification the bags may be filled and weighed simultaneously, in which case the valve 7 is replaced by a manually or automatically operated feed control gate and the shoot is mounted on the scale supporting the bag.
