Abstract

1,014,223. Tobacco smoke filters. KURASHIKI RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. June 15, 1962 [July 3, 1961; Dec. 7, 1961; Dec. 12, 1961 (2); Dec. 23, 1961], No. 23069/62. Heading A2C. A method of preparing tobacco smoke filters comprises bonding a bundle of substantially aligned and crimped fibres with an adhesive to form surface bonds between contiguous fibres at random points of contact, by applying to the bundle of opened and fully spread fibres an adhesive in powder form and a solvent. The solvent may be applied before or after the application of the powder. The adhesive may be concentrated uniformly throughout the bundle or concentrated in the region of its periphery. Suitable adhesives are cellulose derivatives, vinyl polymers, acrylic acid polymers, polyamides, polystyrene and polyesters. Quantitive examples are given.
