Abstract

1,012,115. Multiple fastenings. JOHN TANN Ltd. Sept. 7, 1964 [Sept. 11, 1963], No. 35836/ 63. Heading E2A. A strong room or safe door 1 having mechanism for locking bolts on the door against withdrawal, including a chain or the equivalent holding the locking mechanism out of operative position, is provided with means for relieving the tension on the chain or equivalent, operated by contact of a drill with a plate 10 covering at least the vulnerable portions of the door. As shown, in which a pivoted latch 6 is normally held by a chain 7, to permit operation of bolts 2 by handwheel mechanism 4 when one or more locks 5 are released, one end of the chain is carried by a stub 14 projecting from the inside of the door 1 and extending through a drill-resistant metal plate 10 and another plate 15 also secured to the door, such that pressure on a drill applied to the plate 10, displaces the chain from the stub 14 thereby to free the latch 6 and block the bolts 2. The latch 6 is simultaneously locked in the released position by a spring-loaded bolt. In another arrangement, a sheet of armoured glass of the kind which shatters when its skin is broken normally supports one end of a lever to the other end of which the chain is attached. The chain may include a fusible and/or frangible link.
