Abstract
1,012,082. Cooling I.C. engine cylinders. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. June 19, 1964, No. 25411/64. Heading F1B. A cylinder liner 2 has projections 4 on its outer surface which contact the inner surface of the bore in the water-cooled block, the projections being dimensioned and shaped to give a greater degree of heat transfer to the block at the combustion end of the liner than at the other end. In Figs. 1 and 2 the projections are wider and spaced nearer together at the combustion end of the cylinder than at the other end. In a modification, Fig. 3, baffles 5 are included in the spaces between the projections to control the heat transfer.
