Abstract

1, 011, 710. Measuring flow. FOXBORO CO. Sept. 27, 1963 [Oct.19, 1962], No. 38264/63. Heading G1N. [Also in Division H3] In a process instrumentation system in which a sensing means e.g. an induction flow meter 12 uses an A.C. power source to produce an A.C. measurement signal which is a function of both the process condition and variations in the power supply, variable attenuators, which may be field effect transistors, having pure resistance at least over a limited range are controlled by the said measurement signal to change simultaneously the flow of A.C. and D.C. current through a load resistor 54 from sources 66, 60 whereby a D.C. signal which is purely a function of the process condition is produced at terminals 76, 78 and an alternating current to null the flowmeter output is applied to transformer 20 over a phase adjusting network 70 and line 21. Amplifier 24, which has a high gain and is not responsive to signals in phase quadrature, provides two outputs in antiphase to a pair of phase sensitive rectifiers 32, 34 and the rectifier outputs are applied to control the attenuation of field effect transistors 41, 43 the working points of which are preset by variable bias sources 36, 38. Photo diodes, thermistors, or magneto resistive devices with their appropriate circuitry may be used in place of the field effect transistors. Specification 921,313 is referred to.
