Abstract

1,010,934. Thermographic process and apparatus therefor. KALLE A.G. Sept. 24, 1962 [Sept. 29, 1961], No. 36281/62. Headings G2A and G2C. A thermographic transfer process which comprises fusing a receptor sheet in contact with an original and a layer of heat-transferable material through the nip of a rotating cylinder containing a radiant heat source and a co-operating pressure roller and separating the receptor sheet from the layer after passing through the nip at the moment when the image produced on the slat has attained its maximum marginal sharpness. The heattransferable layer may be coated on the pressure roller or on a paper or cellulose support; the layer preferably being one of the materials specified in Specification 944,871. As shown, an infrared source 1 in glass cylinder 2 located between rollers 4 and 5 and drive roller 3 is contacted with pressure roller 9 having heat-transferable material 8 on its outer surface when the original and receptor sheet are fed in by slot 6 by depressing lever 11 causing spring 15 to expand. Depressing lever 11 also causes switch 13 to be operated switching a source 1, pressure roller 9, drive roller 3 and optionally a cooling fan (not shown). The receptor sheet is separated from layer 8 when the image is sharpest. The apparatus is shut off and the rollers 3 and 4 separated by lifting lever 11, thus depressing bearing 14 against spring 15. The wax coating 8 may be smoothed by scraper 17 or renewed by supply trough 18. Alternatively, the wax coating may be on a web passing through the nip and the copying may be reflex.
