A bricklayers template comprises beams 16 mounted by slots on pivots 54 on shoes 14 slidable on posts 10 so that the ends of the beams can be raised independently, the shoes have spring catches 42 each adapted to engage one of a number of stops 40 on the posts to locate the shoes in position. The walls are built round the outside of the template shown in Fig. 1 against the flanges 17. The shoe 14 comprises a L-section member 50 having lugs 52 for guiding it on the post 10 and between which the catches 42 are mounted. Cams 56 on shafts having handles 60 press the beams out against springs and washers securing the beams on the pivots 54 of the shoes, these cams being turned to retract the beams when the wall has been built to the desired height, to allow movement of the beams. The posts 10 are mounted on footplates 12 and have stays 18, 22, 24. A beam may be connected to a transverse beam by a bolt, Fig. 12 (not shown) having pins at right angles embracing the transverse beam. Pivots 54 on the adjacent ends of two beams are connected together by a bar, Fig. 13 (not shown) to locate the ends of the beams. Other means for connecting beams end to end are shown in Figs. 10, 17 (not shown). A modification comprises a tubular shoe, Figs. 10-13 (not shown) and Fig. 18 (not shown) a tubular shoe with a lever to raise it. The metal beams 16 may comprise a channel 15b, Fig. 15a having return flanges 15c and closed by a web 72 and having a V-section member 15a on the back. A modified form comprises a channel 15d, Fig. 15b closed by a web 72 and having angle flanges 17 and spacers 15f.
