Abstract

A process for recovering linear polyamide material from scrap tyre cord comprises dissolving linear polyamide material from particles of tyre cord containing the polyamide material and vulcanized rubbery material adhering to the tyre cord in aqueous formic acid having a concentration of from 60 to 75% by weight and precipitating polyamide material from the solution. The precipitated nylon being filtered off and washed. The precipitation may be effected by adding the nylon-formic acid solution to water or dilute formic acid or by diluting said solution with water or dilute formic acid.
