Abstract
N,N1,N11-Triorganoborazoles partially substituted by halogen on the boron atoms are made by reacting an N,N1,N11-triorgano-B,B1, B11-trihydrogen borazole, in which the organo radicals are hydrocarbon radicals or halogen-substituted derivatives thereof, with a phosphorus pentahalide in a molar ratio of between 1 : 2.9 to 1 : 0.5 at temperatures of above 0 DEG C., preferably at temperatures of 80 DEG to 150 DEG C. With ratios of borazole to pentahalide of between 1 : 2.9 and 1 : 1.0, mainly dihalogen borazoles are formed, whereas at higher ratios of borazole, mainly monohalogen borazoles are obtained. The phosphorus pentahide is preferably phosphorus pentachloride or pentabromide and may be used in an inert solvent or suspension agent, such as a chlorinated hydrocarbon. Examples describe the preparation of N-tridodecyl - B - dibromo - hydrogen borazole; N - tridodecyl - B - dichlorohydrogen borazole; N - triethyl - B - dichlorohydrogen borazole; and N-triethyl B -monochlorodihydrogenborazole.
