Abstract
1,008,869. Binding posts; two-part couplings. AMP Inc. Jan. 23, 1964 [Feb. 18, 1963; July 25, 1963], No. 2892/64. Heading H2E. [Also in Division B3] An electrical connector formed from sheetmetal (see Division B3) includes a terminal part of uniform cross-section, which is formed at one end with a flared transition to a tubular mounting section of larger cross-section than the post section. The post section 22 accommodates a wire wrap 92, or clip type 94 connection. The connector may be used in assemblies where large numbers of interconnections between different circuits are required. Connectors 70 fit into an aperture in a board 10 and spring sections 78 contact plug members 98, mounted in a movable plug board. Each connector 70 includes an integral latching section 72 above a D-shaped mounting section 74 having locking tabs 77. The post section 22, which has sharp outer corners to bite into the wrapped wire connections, is preferably plated with nickel and then gold. The lower end of the contact 78 may take various forms, e.g. a spring clip for removably receiving the edge of a printed circuit board (Fig. 19, not shown), a tag for passing through a hole in a printed circuit board and soldering to the conducting tracks thereof (Fig. 20, not shown), a lug for crimping to an incoming wire (Fig. 23, not shown), a socket with opposed spring arms (Fig. 18, not shown) or a similar type of connector to post 22 (Fig. 17, not shown). Fig. 25 shows a connector formed from thicker stock, in which the post 422 is formed with a rectangular cross-section by holding the arms of a U-shaped channel member over and back on to the web of the member so that the rectangle of the cross-section has a breadth of twice the thickness of the stock used. Specifications 832,618 and 956,118 are referred to.
