Abstract
The invention comprises 3-ethoxy-5 : 8-diamino-acridine ascorbate, which is prepared either by dissolving 3-ethoxy-5 : 8-diamino-acridine and ascorbic acid in the molecular proportion of 1 : 2 in oxygen-free water, evaporating the water under a vacuum and crystallizing the residue from an organic solvent, all steps being carried out in an inert atmosphere, or by grinding a mixture of 3-ethoxy-5 : 8-diamino-acridine, excess ascorbic acid and a reducing sugar with a moisture content of 0.5 to 1%. Aqueous solutions of the ascorbate are stabilized by adding a reducing compound, e.g. sucrose or glucose, and an acid, e.g. lactic acid or ascorbic acid. Examples are given.ALSO:A pharmaceutical composition comprises 3-ethoxy-5:8-diamino-acridine ascorbate, an acid, (e.g. lactic acid or ascorbic acid) and a stabilizing carrier (e.g. glucose or sucrose). The composition may be a solid or an aqueous solution. Alternatively the composition may comprise 3-ethoxy-5:8-diamino-acridine, ascorbic acid and water-soluble carrier. Examples are given.
