Abstract

1,008,009. Sighting systems for small-arms. SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DEFENCE. Aug. 13, 1964 [June 17, 1963], No. 23996/63. Heading F3C. A sighting system for small-arms which is adjustable for day or night shooting comprises a back-sight having two leaves 1, 2, leaf 2 having an aperture 10 for daylight shooting and leaf 1 an aperture 11 for night shooting, and a blade-type foresight incorporating a luminous datum in the form of a tube 7 coated on the inside with phosphor and filled with tritium gas. Both back-sight leaves are pivoted about an axis 3 and are retained in an upright or horizontal position by means of a spring- loaded ball 12 co-operating with recesses in the base of each leaf. The leaves are mounted on a block 15 which is slidable on a ramp 17 attached to the rifle. A spring ball 18 and notch system being used to vary the range setting. The tube 7 is secured in a bore 22 of a peg 6 screw-threaded into the foresight block 19. The foresight is rotated through a quarter turn from its daylight shooting position wherein the plane of the blade is set along the line of sight to its night shooting position wherein the tube 7 is visible. The peg 6 is retained in position by the arms 23 of a spring clip secured to the block 19.
