Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1007845/C2/1> wherein R1 represents a phenyl or cyclohexyl radical, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, R3 and R4 represent differing alkyl radicals containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms and X represents an alkylene group of 2 or 3 carbon atoms, and acid addition salts thereof, and the preparation thereof by reacting an ester of the formula <FORM:1007845/C2/2> with an N-disubstituted amino alcohol of the formula <FORM:1007845/C2/3> in the presence of a catalyst. 3 - (Ethyl - n - propylamino) propan - 1 - ol is prepared by the action of ethyl acrylate on n-propylamine to give ethyl b -n-propylaminopropionate. This is converted to its N-ocyl derivative which is reduced with lithium aluminium hydride to give the required amino alcohol.
