Abstract
1,007,771. Desuperheating steam; spray producers. SUPERHEATER CO. Ltd. May 9, 1962 [May 9, 1961], No. 16878/61. Headings B1R and B2F. [Also in Division F4] Steam is desuperheated by spraying water at B into a stream main M by an atomizer 3 of the spill back type. Water is delivered by a line W at a predetermined pressure higher than that in the main M, the amount of water passed through the spill line S being regulated by a valve 5 responsive to the temperature of the steam, as measured by a thermocouple 4 in the main M. Three methods of preventing steam passing down the line S are described. In one, as shown, a valve 6 is operated by a control device FD supplied with a signal from a flow-measuring device FM at an orifice plate 7 in the line S and a comparison signal from the constant flow orifice 2 in the line W. In another, Fig. 3 (not shown) control of the valve 6 is dependent on the temperature difference between the lines W and S, and in the third, Fig. 2 (not shown) on the pressure difference between the main M and the line S. Where two superheating stages are employed, the desuperheater is between them, and the thermocouple 4 follows the second stage. The atomizer 3 may comprise the apparatus shown in Fig. 4, in which water enters at A and passes via orifices 12 disposed in circular array to passages 14, see Fig. 5 (not shown), which are tangential to the axis of the device, some of the water exiting through the outlet B and the rest passing through an annular passage 15 and holes 17 to an outlet C leading the line S.
