Abstract

1,007,418. Burnishing. H. KOLBE and H. KOHLER, [trading as FUBA WERK ELEKTRONISCHER BAUTEILE UND GERATE, HANS KOLBE & CO.]. April 22, 1964, No. 16738/64. Heading B3X. [Also in Division B4] A method of perforating an electrically insulating plate for subsequent metallization includes the steps of punching the perforations and smoothing the surfaces of the perforations before metallization, by a planing process effected in the same direction as the punching operation. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a die 2 which has dieopenings 3 and 4 and a peripheral cutting edge corresponding to the desired shape of the plate 5 and which co-operates with a cutting die 1. The punch unit comprises a plate 7 in which are mounted punches 8 and 9, and a guide plate 10, the whole unit being slidable in a member 6. The smoothing punches 8<SP>1</SP> and 9<SP>1</SP> are mounted in a plate 7<SP>1</SP> and pass through a guide plate 10<SP>1</SP>. The smoothing punch unit is interchangeable with the perforating punch unit. A set of burnishing punches, Fig. 6, may be mounted in a similar way to the perforating and smoothing punches for additionally smoothing the holes by compression.
