Abstract

1,006,023. Television; radar. MARCONI CO. Ltd. Jan. 23, 1964 [Feb. 27, 1963], No. 7867/63. Headings H4D and H4F. In a cathode-ray tube display system a charge pattern corresponding to video signals having given scanning standards is produced on the target of a storage type camera tube 8 (Fig. 1) which " views " a light line-raster R produced by a flying spot scanner tube 1 (operating with desired scanning standards) so that the output signals of tube 8, which are applied via amplifier 13 to intensity modulate the beam of a picture tube 6 scanned similarly to tube 1, produce a bright line-type image irrespective of the initial scanning pattern of the video signals. The video signals may be conventional television signals, the scanning standards of which are required to be converted or they may be radar signals (derived by polar co-ordinate scanning and which are required to be displayed by line raster scanning) or they may be derived by scanning an X-ray screen (Fig. 4, not shown) by means of a pick-up tube similar to tube 8 (Fig. 1) or by means of a mechanical scanning device. Fig. 3 shows the application of the invention to radar apparatus 15 which provides three outputs corresponding, e.g., to different sectors or range zones each output being converted by means of separate camera tubes 8, 81, 811 and supplied, selectively, via switch 18, to the picture reproducing tube 6 to which other tubes may be connected via lead 19. Alternatively the inputs to the separate camera tubes may be derived from separate radars. In this embodiment video maps, range rings, strobes or other markers may be superimposed on the radar signals under the control of auxiliary signal sources 20, 201, 2011.
