Abstract

1,005,828. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. June 10, 1963, No. 23012/63. Heading B8N. A valve for dispersing a measured quantity of a liquid/solid slurry from a vessel 1 comprises a rotatable hollow valve member 17 having a port 21 which registers successively with inlet and outlet ports 15, 16. The valve member 17 is rotated through a spindle 22 which carries a cam 26 adapted to actuate a gas valve 29. With the valve in the position shown, slurry enters the valve and the valve is rotated until the port 21 registers with the outlet 15. In this position the cam 26 opens the gas valve 29 and gas flows through conduits 33, 35 and past a non-return valve 41, carried on the valve member 17, and assists the discharge. The gas valve 29 is maintained open during further rotation of the valve 17 and closes just prior to the port 21 registering with the inlet 15 so that the interior of the valve 17 is pressurized and the gas flows into the inlet 15 thus clearing the inlet of solids. The gas is also fed to the larger end of the valve member 17 through conduits 36, 38 to prevent lateral movement of the valve member. The spindle 22 may be driven by an electric motor.
