Abstract

An abrasive article comprises a multiplicity of small isolated rigidly bonded abrasive bodies, preferably pyramidal in shape, secured in a bonded abrasive containing matrix of a permanently resilient thermoplastic resin, for example an acrylic polymer. The matrix may have a filamentary reticulum, for example of glass or nylon fibre, embedded therein, which acts to reinforce the abrasive bodies. The article may be made by forming tapered cavities in the matrix, loading the cavities with abrasive granules and a heat-hardenable resin, and subjecting to heat and pressure. The article may be backed with a flexible backing, and may be made up into belts or discs, grinding wheels, set-up wheels, or polishing wheels.
