Abstract

1,005,314. Change-speed gear. BOITES DE VITESSES INDUSTRIELLES. April 12, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961], No. 14103/62. Heading F2D. A gear-box comprises two detachable end walls 32, 33 each formed with a circular spigot 39 machined with four bores 36, 40, 41, 141 whose centres 36a, 40a, 41a, 141a lie on a rhomboid symmetrical with the spigot. A gear casing 21, preferably of square section, has walls 32, 33 spigoted and bolted to each end, the walls carrying input 26, lay 67 and output shafts 27. Levers 51, 56, mounted in a side of the casing, control selector forks 52, 57 actuating slidable gear pairs 52, 54 to engage with appropriate gears 63, 64, 65, 66 on the layshaft 67 to provide four ratios. The axes of the shafts 26, 27 are equidistant from the centre O of the end wall spigot and a distance B apart and the axis of the shaft 67 is at distances A from the axes of the two other shafts. Series of different size boxes may be built up with the dimension A equal to the dimension B of the next smaller box, these dimensions and those of the components being in geometrical progression, preferably 1�25. Any desired ratio or number of ratios, including reverse, may be obtained by building two or more boxes in series.
