Abstract

1,004,821. Burners. AVCO CORPORATION. July 10, 1964 [Sept. 27, 1963], No. 28705/64. Heading F4T. Pulverised coal is fed at the rate of 1-3 pounds per second with primary air through the tube 23 terminating at or upstream of the throat 24 through which secondary oxygenenriched air preheated to 1500‹ F. flow at the rate of 1080 feet per second. Mixing and pressure recovery occurs in the mixing chamber 15 and a flame holder 22 of bar, cruciform or annular construction maintains ignition which is finally completed in the zone 21. The fuel may be fed in by a plurality of tubes arranged normal to the tube 15, or alternatively it may be fed through a slot orifice in the long side of a rectangular section mixing section 15.
