Abstract

1,004,597. Sewing machines. NECCHI S.p.A. March 20, 1963 [April 4, 1962], No. 11005/63. Heading D1G. A sewing machine comprises a work-holding frame carried on a first structure movable on a second structure which is movable in a direction perpendicular to the movement of the first structure, is characterized in that a driven shaft which is carried by the first structure is maintained in rolling contact with a fixed template by means of magnetic attraction. A work-holding frame 21 is releasably secured to an upright arm 18 rigid with a bar 14 slidable in bushes 11 carried by a frame 8 also carrying bushes 9, 10 slidable on fixed bars 5, 6 perpendicular to bar 14. A bracket 16, rigid with bar 14, carries a roller 17 supported by a bar 12 of frame 8. A shaft 50, journelled in bracket 16, is driven by a motor 48 mounted on the latter, and rolls along the edges of a fixed template 51 magnetised by an electromagnet 55, to produce the line of stitching b on a workpiece a supported by the work-holder 21. The corners 58 of the template are cut away as at 61 to allow the shaft 50 to pass from one edge to another. In a modification, each edge is separately magnetised. Micro-switches 64, 65 controlling the sewing machine, the motor 48 and the electromagnet 55 are positioned at the ends of ten template. The work-holding frame 21 comprises a bar 22 to which is secured a pair of arms 23. Pivoted to each arm 23 is a bar 29 adapted to enter a groove on the lower surface of the arm 23 for clamping one end of the workpiece, bar 29 being held in work-clamping position by a spring catch 32. Bar 22 is mounted on a pair of pins 37 carried by a bar 20 projecting from the top of arm 18, and is releasably held by the nose 40 of a manually operable lever 39 pivoted on bar 20.
