Abstract
1,004,559. Axial-flow fans. BLACK & DECKER MANUFACTURING CO. June 23, 1964 [Nov. 27, 1963], No. 25852/64. Heading F1C. [Also in Division F2] In a fan, for example for a portable electric tool, an annular bladed member 11. is retained against a shoulder 15 of a hub 13 by a locking ring 23 axially pressed, as by a 500 1b. load, against the member 11. The ring 23 is preferably frusto-conical so that, when it is in the position shown, the axial loading causes its inner periphery to bite into the hub 13 pressfitted or otherwise secured to the shaft 20. The frusto-conical ring may initially have a slide or interference fit over the hub and is preferably not completely flattened by the axial load, but instead assumes a position in which its inner periphery is slightly spaced (as shown) from the hub fillet 17. A ring 22 of plastics material may be arranged between the member 11 and the shoulder 15 to compensate for any surface irregularities. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), a retaining circlip is axially pressed over the hub into a peripheral groove adjacent the locking ring 23. The bladed member may be of plastics or aluminium and the hub 13 of metal, such as steel.
