Abstract

100,432. Walker, C. S. July 30, 1915. Gun cartridges; projectiles.- relates to projectiles discharged from a gun by means of a rod a fitting into the gun barrel, and more particularly to gas checks therefor of the kind comprising an intermediate expansible washer between two plugs secured together by a shear wire. According to the invention, the gas cheek is made up of two oppositely tapered plugs b, c connected together by a shear wire e and adapted, by being shaped as shown, to expand an intermediate flanged disk f<1> when the wire e is sheared and the plugs are pressed against each other by the pressure of the gun gases. The front plug c may be secured to the rod a, and the rear plug b may be secured to the cartridge d as shown.
