Abstract

1,003,563. Valve-discharge water-waste-preventing cisterns. MANSFIELD SANITARY Inc. March 19, 1963 [June 21, 1962], No. 10818/63. Heading E1C. A flush valve for a water tank comprises a valve assembly including a tube 1, to which is attached a skirt 5 definining an annular chamber 7 with an open lower end around it, and a resilient disc 2 attached to the tube 1 and skirt 5 to close the said open end, having a downwardly-and-outwardly-inclined, annular, flexible flange 15 to engage a valve seat 21 and openings 16 into the chamber 7 within the area bounded by the flange 15. The area of the top surface of the skirt 5 is greater than the area of the disc 2 outside the flange 15. A loop 18 on the tube 1 receives a flush lever to move the assembly vertically, the tube 1 being guided on a fixed guide rod 36 by means of fixed guides 3, 4. A speed bearing the valve seat 21 is fitted to the tank bottom 30 and has a spider 35 carrying the rod 36. Because the tube 1 and skirt 5 are of low-density material and the volume of air in the chamber 7, the valve assembly is buoyant enough to float in the water when lifted off the seat 21. They are preferably of material with a specific gravity of not more than 1.
