Abstract
1,002,631. Land mines. WASAG-CHEMIE A.G. Dec. 21, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 48452/62. Heading F3A. A hollow-charge land mine comprises a double-walled casing 1 housing a hollow charge 3 having a liner 4, a propellent charge 5 being housed in the hollow charge and a double-walled cover 6 carrying a fuze 9 being placed over the propellant. Axially arranged in the charge 3 is a primer charge 12 and a delay detonator 11 held in place by a plug 13. A fuze (not shown) to fire an ignition charge 14 may be inserted in a radial passage in the cover 6 and may be an electric igniter or of the push-pull type. When charge 14 is fired and fuze 9 ignited thereby, the propellant 5 is initiated and blows off the cover 6 together with any overlying camouflage material. Flame from the charge 5 passes through a flash passage 10 and fires the detonator 11, which in turn fires charge 12 to initiate the charge 3. The space between the double walls of the casing 1 and cover 6 may be filled with passing such as a foamed material. As propellant either a mono- or polybasic nitrocellulose powder or gunpowder may be used and the hollow charge may be trinitrotoluene, tetranitropentaerythritol, or cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine or mixtures thereof. Liner 4 and the casing walls may be made of copper or for a non-detectable mine, non- metallic materials such as plastics, wood or ceramics may be used.
