Abstract

1,000,767. Diffusers. INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. May 8, 1964 [May 8, 1963], No. 18227/63. Heading F2R. A diffuser has a main throat 1 and one or more throated outlet passages 3 which provide a substantially continuous circumferential opening downstream of the main throat to withdraw some of the fluid flowing through the diffuser, the wall 2 of the diffuser between the main throat and the outlet passage being shaped to ensure substantially constant fluid pressure adjacent the wall. The passage 3 is preferably followed by a diffuser 5 and the wall 2 preferably turns between the throats A and B through more than 90 degrees, e.g. by 150-180 degrees. Formulµ are given for the profile of the wall 2. The walls 4 downstream of the openings may diverge by up to 90 degrees.
