Abstract

1,099,750. Winding webs. HOBBS MANU FACTURING CO. July 29, 1966, No. 34212/66 Heading B6B. Web-winding apparatus includes a carriage 12, movable hydraulically along rails 14, which support a driven roller 38, pneumatically urged against a driven web-roll core 10 by fluid cylinders 48. The roller 38 is mounted between a pair of arms 34 pivotally mounted at 32 to a carriage member 28. Increase in diameter of the web-roll pivots the arms 34 clockwise so that a flag 44 on an extension 40 moves out of the path of a photo-electric cell 46, which cell together with the amplifier and hydraulic unit 24 controls the movement of the carriage 12. Movement of the carriage 12 results in movement of a cam follower 54 along a cam 52. The cam follower 54 in turn controls a regulator 50 for the fluid cylinders 48, thereby controlling the force of the roller 38 against the web-roll, predetermined by the profile of the cam 52. In addition to the above, an electric signal dependent on the position of the carriage 12 may be utilized to vary the control of a D.C. motor drive to the web-roll core 10, thereby controlling the torque.
