Abstract

109,611. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Aug. 28, 1916, [Convention date]. Regulating.-Pulsation is obviated by producing a throttling effect in the suction or delivery pipe of the compressor in such a manner that as the volume of delivery diminishes the pressure decreases, this pressure decrement being approximately nil at the critical volume of delivery, increasing to a maximum with diminishing volume of delivery, and again decreasing with a further diminishing volume of delivery, disappearing wholly or approximately when the volume of delivery is nil. Various forms of throttle-control apparatus comprising springs or pistons are described. Fig. 2 shows a spring-loaded throttling device which is inoperative at the positions a and b, and secures a maximum throttling between those positions. In a modification, the spring device is replaced by a piston actuated by compressed air or oil, the supply of which is throttled by a control valve to secure the desired effect. Fig. 6 shows a throttling member actuated according to the various volumes of delivery by means of a piston and cam device. The cam and like devices may be made adjustable. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes also a construction of throttle-control apparatus as shown in Fig. 7 (cancelled) for obtaining the same result. This modification does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
