Abstract
1,096,064. Laminated films. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 3, 1966 [Feb. 22, 1965], No. 7594/65. Heading B5N. A laminate comprises a plurality of layers of oriented crystallizable thermoplastic film in which at least one of the outermost layers contains an additive which is substantially unaffected by exposure to the atmosphere and moisture and undergoes no chemical reaction with the thermoplastic material in which it is contained even at temperatures up to the melting point of that thermoplastic material. The layers of the laminate may be simultaneously extruded through a multi-channel die. Specified polymers are polymers of ethylene, propylene and 4-methyl pentene, block copolymers of one or more of these polymers, polyethylene terephthalate, polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide, and polycaprolactam. Specified additives are antistatic agents, silica, silicates, aluminosilicates, e.g. clays, powdered glass, carborundum, talc, ground mica, ground mother of pearl, polymers other than those of which the film is made, which polymers either melt at temperatures higher than the highest temperature used during the formation of the laminate or are not miscible with the film-forming polymer when the polymers are in the molten state. One or more layers of the laminate may be oriented.
