A haymaking machine comprises a rotary pick-up reel which feeds crop to an endless tined conveyer, the conveyer being partially shrouded by movable shields 80-83 which can be fixed in two alternative positions, in one of which the crop is fed by the conveyer, within the shields, and deposited in a swath at one side of the machine and in the other the shields are moved into an inoperative position and the crop is scattered broadcast by the conveyer. The pick-up reel comprises two tined drums arranged in axial alignment but having a floating common mounting at their centre on a skid 52 enabling them to accommodate ground-irregularities. The tines 54 rotate between stationary plates 57 surrounding the drums the plates forming a platform 58 over which the crop passes to the endless conveyer. The conveyer comprises a chain 70 running around a pair of sprockets 67 inclined at approximately 15‹ to the horizontal, the tines being in pairs 71, 72 of which the rear tine is longer. The conveyer is enclosed in a casing 31 having fixed walls 35, 36 and movable doors 80-83 which form the lower rear part of the casing. When the doors are all closed, the conveyer discharges to one or other side of the machine, two alternative drives to the main sprocket 67 being provided (Fig. 5, not shown). The device is mounted on one castor 10 and one lockable swivel wheel and is drawn endways for transport. The drawbar 25 is adjustable vertically and horizontally.
