Abstract

1,094,603. Selective printing. OKI ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. March 22, 1965 [March 25, 1964; Dec. 26, 1964], No. 12062/65. Heading B6F. Type-drum construction.-A type drum 1 is constructed of two cases 2, 3, one within the other, and each having radially aligned square holes for inwardly sprung type-members 9. Selective positioning of type-drum.-The drum is rotatively and axially moved to position a selected character into position to be hit by a hammer 13, Fig. 3, by gearing 20, 15 and shaft 19 and/or gearing 17, 14 and shaft 16. The shafts 19, 16, Fig. 4, are rotated by pinions engaging racks 49, 50 which moved longitudinally by angled plates 39, 40, Fig. 6 (not shown), vertically sliding in channelled recesses 51, 51<SP>1</SP> in the end of the racks. Each angled plate has two projecting pins 41, 42 and 43, 44 which engage in slots 45, 46 and 47, 48 in a further plate 35 which is vertically reciprocated by a bell crank 32 oscillated by a cam 31 clutched to a motor 30. During a rotation of the cam 31 the plate 35 descends, taking with it, in a vertical direction, the two angled plates 39, 40. When, however, one of the sloping sides of the plates engages stops 37, 38 that are selectively projected the plates move horizontally to the left or the right, as the case may be, and the racks are moved accordingly. Electrical positioning of stops.-When a signal is received or a local key closes electrical contacts, a stop in each row (or one row) is projected by two corresponding rows of electromagnets (see Fig. 5, not shown).
