Abstract

1,094,120. Propelling rail vehicles; conveyer systems. E. GARBERS. Aug. 13, 1965 [Aug. 22, 1964], No. 34745/65. Heading B7L. A railway system comprises a railway track having track rails 1, 2, Fig. 1 (not shown); guide rails 3, 4 adjacent the rails 1, 2, respectively; spaced four-wheeled trolleys 5, 7 ... 17, 19 arranged to travel between the feet and heads of the rails 1, 3 and spaced four-wheeled trolleys 6, 8 ... 18, 20, arranged to travel between the feet and heads of the rails 2, 4; a raisable transport arm 29, Fig. 4, pivotally mounted on each trolley and adapted to engage the rim of a wheel or other part of a railway car; and cables 37 or rods 22 interconnecting the trolleys and connected at each end of the track by chains 23, 24 passing round sprockets 25, the cables being driven to-and-fro by a reversible motor 26 whereby the railway cars can be transported alternately by the trolleys of one and the other track rails, by means of raised arms 29. Each trolley has wheels 56 and is connected with longitudinal lost motion through slots 46, Fig. 7 (not shown), with four bolts 41 on a base member 21 secured to the cables or rods. The base member has a pocket 27 to engage a projection 28 of the transport arm 29 which is pivoted at 53 to two guide rods 51 pivotal and slidable in slots 55 in the trolley frame by means of a pin 54. The arm 29 at its operative outer and has a roller 44 for engaging a car wheel rim and a projection 32 which can be latched below a spring-urged locking bar 33, as described with reference to Figs. 6 and 8 (not shown). The locking bar 33 is releasable by means of the plunger 31 of an electromagnet 30 when the latter is energized to place the plunger 31 in the path of a bell-crank 36 pivotally connected through a fork 35 with a stud 34 on the locking bar. When the cables or rods are operated to move the trolleys 5, 7 ... 17, 19 in the direction 38, the arm 29, e.g. of the trolley 5, will be raised when the associated plunger 31 is operated and a railway car will be moved a distance of 15 metres. At the same time the trolleys 6, 8 ... 18, 20 will move in the direction 39 and their arms 29 will be in the lowered inoperative positions. The motor 26 will then be reversed, in known manner, and the trolleys 5, 7 &c. will move in the direction 39 without effect on the moved car. However, the trolley 8 will then move the car another 15 metres. Trolleys of the rails 1 and 2 will thus alternately push the car along the track.
