Abstract

1,094,069. Transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 4, 1966 [Dec. 17, 1964], No. 51409/64. Heading H1T. The adjacent groups of laminations of a laminated core (e.g. for transformers and reactors &c.) are separated, for cooling purposes, by a plurality of electrically insulating spacers, each attached to one or other of the facing laminations of two adjacent groups by at least one tongue formed from part of the lamination. The spacer 5 (Fig. 2) of plastics material (e.g. epoxy resin or reinforced fibre glass) is provided with a square aperture 8 whose cross-section is abruptly reduced to provide a surface 9 which is substantially parallel to the faces 6, 7 of the spacer and on to which the tongue of a lamination is hooked. Diagonal grooves 10 are provided on one face 6 to allow escape of air trapped between adjacent laminations in the opening 8. The spacers are preferably attached to one lamination (11) (Fig. 5, not shown), by piercing the lamination with a tool (12) which forms four triangular tongues and bends them out of the plane of the lamination into the opening 8 of the spacer to hook them on to the surface 9. A multiheaded tool may be used to secure several spacers to the same lamination simultaneously.
