Abstract

1,093,830. Holding tools. CANNON ELECTRIC (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. June 4, 1965 [June 5, 1964], No. 23413/64. Heading B4W. A double tool for extracting and inserting plug-ended conductors from the rear of a connector in which retention clips are used, comprises a central cylindrical portion of hard plastics material split longitudinally and having a double ramp portion 20 with serrated slopes for guiding an electrical conductor, there being formed a V-notch at the reverse side of the cylinder to facilitate bending of the longitudinal halves of the tool. The end portions of the tool, Fig. 3, comprise tapering steel tubes fitting into slots in the central portion and each formed in two halves the line contacts of which are aligned with the longitudinal slot and notch in the central member. The assembly is heated to cause the plastics material to adhere to the steel. In a modification, Fig. 5, a single-ended extraction tool is made from a single moulding of plastics material. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the tool comprises two portions, 25, 26, one for extractions and the other for insertions, each portion including a cylindrical portion and a tapered portion both longitudinally slotted. A third portion in the form of a double ramp fits inside the other two portions and the whole is riveted together. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,063,026.
