Abstract

[Also in Divisions F2 and H2 Two coaxial components of a mechanical assembly comprising at least one rotatable member, e.g. electric motors, bearings, shaft and pinion arrangements, are bonded together by an injection moulding process using an electrically and thermally insulating material comprising a synthetic thermoplastic resin, e.g. a polyamide, and a filler having a modulus of elasticity at least fifty times that of the resin. The filler which is added in an amount between 10-30% by weight of the resin may be mica, glass, sandstone or glass fibre. Embodiments include an armature wherein insulant 3 bonds laminations 2 to a steel shaft 1, an armature having a shaft which is of reduced diameter as at (1a), Fig. 3 (not reproduced), an armature whose shaft (6, 7), Fig. 4 (not shown), is of insulant encircled at its ends by metal bushes (8), and laminations (13), Fig. 9 (not shown), mounted in the frame (14) of an electric motor. In this embodiment and that of Figs. 1 and 2 the laminations may be lined as at (15) and (5) respectively with unfilled resin using an injection mould as shown in Fig. 5 (not reproduced). Fig. 6 (not reproduced), shows a pinion (10) bonded to shaft (1) by insulant (4) and Figs. 7 and 8 (not reproduced) show respectively a shaft bearing with components (11, 12) bonded by insulant (4) and an end-stop bearing similarly comprising two coaxial components bonded together.
