Abstract
1,092,154. Continuous-casting machines; moulds. BETEILIGUNGS UND PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. May 14, 1965 [May 15, 1964], No. 20532/65. Heading B3F. A profiled roll 10 containing cooling tubes 9 drives a continuous casting 8 through a twopart mould 5, 6 with cooling tubes 16, the roll rotating adjacent the end of the upper, shorter, mould-part 5 and above the extended end of the lower, longer, mould-part 6 where the latter extends to the intake gate 2; the roll surface is cavitied with a profile like that of the upper mould-part 5, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) to give a complementary shape to the upper part of the casting 8. The roll 10, mould 5, 6 and intake gate 2 are mounted on a slide 18 for reciprocation horizontally, mould lubricant being sprayed on to the roll and passed to the lower part of the casting 8 through a feed 14 in the mouldpart 6. There is a plastically-deformable refractory seal 11, a cleaning brush 13 and a spacer 15 associated with the roll 10. The casting 8 passes through support rolls 24 and cooling sprays 23 to driven rolls 25 rotated at the same speed as the roll 10.
