Abstract

A composition comprises a natural or synthetic rubber and microencapsulated particles of an active ingredient being microscopic particles, each of which has been individually provided with a sheath of a polymeric or resinous material over at least a substantial part of its surface, the sheath being chosen to expose the said substantial part of the surface of each particle of the active ingredient under predetermined conditions or chosen to permit the release of the active ingredient if the active ingredient is fluid under predetermined conditions, the active ingredient being chemically active under certain conditions in the treatment of the rubber composition. Particular ingredients to be encapsulated ae accelerators, particularly fast accelerators such as zinc isopropyl xanthate.
