Abstract

1,089,674. Density measurements. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 11, 1965 [March 13, 1964], No. 10729/64. Heading G1S. Apparatus for determining the weight of a given volume of an aerated liquid comprises a cylinder 1 closed at one end by a pressure release cap 5 which is retained under the required pressure by a screw mechanism 7, housed in an assembly 3 engageable over the lugs 2 of the cylinder 1 and pressing against springs 8. The other end of the cylinder 2 is sealed by a piston controlled by a screw mechanism 14. In operation, the piston 12 is inserted into the cylinder 1 and lugs 10 of a cross-bar 11 engaged in slots 9. Liquid to be measured is then poured into the cylinder and the pressure release cap 5 placed in position. The liquid is compressed by movement of the piston 12 until pressure inside the chamber is sufficient to release the pressure cap 5, when it is forced out until the pressures are equalized and the cap recloses, thus removing air present in the liquid. The apparatus is subsequently weighed.
