Abstract
Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate is stabilized by the addition of an alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal phosphate, at least a portion of the said phosphate stabilizer being added to solid dicalcium phosphate and the mixture ground. The stabilizer may be tetrasodium pyrophosphate, calcium pyrophosphate, magnesium pyrophosphate, calcium disodium pyrophosphate, an alkali metal tripolyphosphate, an alkali metal hexametaphosphate, dimagnesium phosphate, trimagnesium phosphate or a mixture thereof. Preferably 0.4 to 0.9% of the stabilizer is added to the dicalcium phosphate dihydrate during its preparation e.g. at a pH of 7.5 to 8.5, and a further 0.2 to 0.6%, referred to the weight of the dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, is added to the solid dicalcium phosphate dihydrate before grinding.
